RED SQUIRREL
When I arrived in the UK, I was amazed to see squirrels as I had never seen any before. I was particularly excited to realise they weren't afraid of people; in fact 2 of them climbed up my jacket until they reached my neck. (No, they didn't want to kiss me; they were just asking for food. And yes, I am one of those ladies that go to the park to feed squirrels and pigeons.)
I recently found out that the red squirrel population has decreasead dramatically due to the introduction of grey squirrels into the UK.
In order to preserve the red squirrel, a sniping area has been created somewhere between Scotland and England. And poor little grey squirrels have a sudden meeting with the Squirrel Reaper. RIP
Nevertheless, despite all the efforts, the only squirrels I've seen here in Edinburgh are grey, so I guess the snipers aren't doing such a good job.
Technique: dry pastel on paper.
